Sabatini´s Italian Neoclassicism

The Knight Templar church and annexed monastery, a powerful ensemble that belonged to the Montesa military order, set out on its course by the hand of the Knight Templars after their support to James I in times of the Reconquest.  This national monument was built up following the commands of the king Carlos III after a daunting quake devastated the castle of the Montesa knights in 1748. The church, influenced by the Italian architect Sabatini, features lovely frescoes by the academic artist José Vergara, various attractive chapels, a baldachin that embellishes the majestic apse, a superb cupola or interesting grisailles that mesmerize the visitor that enters this unknown landmark.
