The Church of San Juan de la Cruz reopens its acclaimed immersive tour
The Church of San Juan de la Cruz reopens its acclaimed immersive visit, Saint John’s Gold, a unique experience that fuses heritage, light, and music to rediscover one of Valencia’s most fascinating temples. This new season, which will begin on September 11 and run until December 30, will be marked by the unveiling of the Benignity, one of the most monumental and symbolic reliefs of the church — a unique masterpiece both for its size (18 meters high) and its extraordinary artistic value.
The spectacular relief—a complex vertical sculptural composition filled with mysticism and symbolism—becomes a living canvas through a carefully designed projection of lighting effects created with evolving scenographic light, artificial intelligence, and videomapping, all synchronized with the notes and rhythms of great Baroque masterpieces. Each musical fragment poetically and sensorially highlights different iconographic elements of the composition, under a contemporary concept of the Baroque continuum.
As expressed by the Ars Magna creative team: “This is not just a projection—it’s a spiritual and aesthetic reading of the Baroque, translated into a language for our time. Each composer offers their vision, their intimate perspective on mystery and beauty.” For instance, when G. F. Händel’s Eternal Source of Light Divine plays, it brings to life the virtues of Saint Andrew represented in the relief, creating a deeply moving spiritual climax of goodness and harmony through its contemplative power.
The reopening of Saint John’s Gold is a renewed opportunity to reconnect with this extraordinary temple—one of the six oldest historical parishes in Valencia—and to contribute to the preservation of a true gem of the Baroque and Rococo periods, considered a key part of Spain’s national heritage. With every ticket, visitors not only enjoy a transformative artistic experience but also actively support the protection of the historical, artistic, and spiritual legacy of the Church of Saint John of the Cross.
In respect for the religious nature of the church—dedicated to prayer—the immersive experience will be offered weekly, during limited visiting hours only. This reopening offers a new chance to be immersed in the history, spirituality, and beauty of this sacred space, transformed into a stage of light and inner resonance.
